March 22nd. Last day to file Nomination papers for qualified potential candidates

Filed under: Uncategorized — diana @ 1:51 am

There are two ways to become a candidate for elective Town office:

  1. Candidates may be nominated at the annual Town Caucus.  This open meeting of all registered voters is called by the Selectmen, usually in early March.  Nominations, which must be duly seconded, are made from the floor.  The two candidates for each available position receiving the largest number of votes at the Caucus are designated Caucus Nominees on the ballot.  Each Caucus Nominee must receive a minimum of 8% of the votes cast at the Caucus.
  2. Any qualified potential candidate not nominated by the Caucus may get his or her name on the ballot by filing nomination papers (available from the Town Clerk’s office) bearing signatures of registered voters in the town totaling at least 1% of the votes cast in Weston for Governor in the most recent election for that office, but not more than 50.  Nomination papers must be filed with the Registrars of Voters at least 49 days before the date of the Town election.  Nominees should obtain more than the minimum number of signatures required to protect against duplicate and/or invalid signatures.

Additional Information for Candidates:

Candidates for elected office should keep records of any campaign donations received and funds spent on their campaigns, if any.  A campaign finance report must be filed with the Town Clerk according to the following schedule:

  • 8 days before the election
  • 30 days after the election
  • at the end of the calendar year (due January 10 of the next year)

The Town Clerk’s office supplies the report forms at the appropriate times.  The state office of Campaign and Political Finance can provide further information.

Weston Zoning Setbacks & Variances

Filed under: Uncategorized — diana @ 7:14 pm

Important fact about structures in Weston that are non-conforming on a lot.

The Building Inspector of Weston says if a structure in anyway is in a setback, than the entire structure is non-conforming, not just the part of the structure that is actually in the setback. If you are considering an addition to a structure that will require a variance please make sure you realize that ANY & EVERY future change to your structure will always require a variance. Be Informed.

Weston Storm Water Group will hold a public Hearing in March Date to be determined.

Filed under: Uncategorized — diana @ 2:46 pm
The Storm Water Group consisting of Wendy Diotalevi, Board of Health Director, Stephen Fogg, Town Engineer,
Michele Grzenda, Conservation Agent, Susan Haber, Town Planner, Robert Morra, Building Inspector, will be holding a public hearing in March to review the proposed Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination Bylaw to be brought to Town meeting in May. The EPA is requiring that by June Towns in the Charles River Watershed test for certain pollutants in its drainage system. Weston has a limited drainage system so this bylaw has different effects on different parts of town. Private roads systems are not monitored by the town but if illicit discharge is found in the town system near a private road system than the proposed bylaw will allow the town to demand the private road to test and remediate any violation to the bylaw. Understand drainage on your property and in your neighborhood.
The purpose of the Illicit Discharge By-law is to regulate illicit connections and discharges to the municipal storm drain system for the protection of the Town’s water bodies and groundwater, and to safeguard the public health, safety, welfare and the environment.
The following is a draft proposal for review: {96DA059B-48C9-49C5-AE4C-BBC7D83ACA34}
